Obstructive Sleep Apnea or OSA is the most common form of sleep apnea. It is caused by a collapse or Obstruction of the airway which may be due to such factors as a large tongue, extra tissue in the airway and decreased muscle tone. Air is prevented from reaching the lungs and is characterized by repetitive pauses in breathing. These pauses or “apneas” interrupt normal sleep patterns resulting in many common symptoms.
